Frequently asked questions
Q: How long do children take before they can swim by themselves?
A: It is impossible for us to say how long they will take. All children are different, and will learn at different rates depending upon their personal developmental level.
Q: What if I arrive late for my lesson?
A: If you arrive late for your lesson, the teacher will teach for the remainder of the session. We strictly work according to our time schedule to avoid running late, we can not extend into another client's time slot to accommodate for late arrival. We strongly urge parents / clients to be at the facility at least 10min prior to lesson. This will give enough time to get dressed, swimmers must be ready and waiting by the time of your swim slot.
Q: Is it possible to drown proof a child?
A: No. No-one is ever drown proof. We do however say a child is "Water Safe" once they can swim by themselves. Different people react differently to different situations, and even the most experienced swimmers can drown in certain situations. The emphasis needs to be on safety and an adult should be present at all times when children are swimming.
Q: What if my child cries or performs?
A: All our teachers are very experienced in dealing with nervous children and they know how to deal with them. Don't get involved with the lesson, you are taking the child's attention away from the teacher. Let your child develop a bond and learn to trust their teacher. We want our children to love having lessons with us, but sometimes (especially with first time swimmers) they might cry and perform during the first few lessons. If this is the case, we'll first focus on gaining the child's trust and work on a bond. We are NOT going to force children to get into the pool, but will have them sit on the side and play with the toys to slowly build up their confidence and trust.
Q: What if my child had a bad or traumatizing experience at a previous LTS school and have a fear of water?
A: Allot of patience will be required, we will not force any child to go into the water against his or her will. This is where some instructors go wrong and end up installing a fear into the child, this is against our policy at Superswim Academy. We will need to slowly re-introduce the child to the water and work on trust until they are ready to get into the pool and continue with lessons. Some parents might find this frustrating and feel like no progress has been made for a few lessons, but its vital to get rid of the fear fist before attempting to start with lessons.
Q: My child has a disability or condition making it difficult to participate in sports or physical activities. Can we enroll?
A: Yes, absolutely. We have had children with various disabilities and conditions, they progressed very well with us. We will learn the child's limits and capabilities and adjust our program to work around this. Where movement is limited, swimming is the best sport to partake in and strongly recommended to help the child develop further.
Q: My child has a sensitive skin or allergic to harsh chemicals, prolonged exposure to chlorinated and/or salt water results in irritability and rashes.
A: SSAPN will be the perfect facility for you. We care about the health and safety of our clients and opted to install a combined Ozone / UV treatment system. We also have the best Activated Filter Media (AMF) to get rid of any particles in the water. This makes our facility stand out from the rest. Q: Does swimming in winter make you sick?
A: No. Viruses are transmitted by direct contact between people, not cold weather. The likelihood of people getting sick in winter is due to the fact that they are indoors more and this creates a prime opportunity for germs to spread. Our Ozone / UV pool does kill harmful bacteria and reacts with any bodily fluid in the pool preventing the spread of viruses and bacteria.
